Sailing tjalk Linquenda

The tjalk Linquenda has the perfect dimensions for a perfect wonderful day's sailing. She can gain speed on open water, is quite stable, and is easy to steer through locks and canals in inland waters. This classic sailing tjalk is available for groups, as a special location for an event or meeting, for a relaxing day trip or for a longer sailing holiday. She offers adequate space for your group, both above and below deck. Despite her changed role, the most important aspect of Linquenda has remained the same: playing with the elements of wind and water, combined with her rock-solid mechanics and rigging, turn each sailing trip into a new adventure!

For those who really want to sail

The sailing tjalk Linquenda was built in 1916 as a cargo ship, at the shipyard of Worst in Meppel. Under sail she transported goods such as wood, from places as far as Riga on the Baltic Sea. She was given the current name Linquenda in 1941. Linquenda means: "Once I will have to leave her", a promise that the ship would always last longer than the owner. The ship was converted into a passenger ship in the 1970's, and is cosily furnished and paneled with mahogany. The nostalgic brass light fittings and portholes give the place a timeless maritime atmosphere. The day room has comfortable sofas and chairs and can seat 20-25 people for a pleasant get-together. There are games, books, a radio/CD player, and we can hook up a beer keg to enjoy a cold draft beer. The kitchen offers all the necessary facilities to prepare a complete meal together. The cabins offer accommodations for up to 18 people. These are equipped with a washbasin.

The skipper

During longer trips, the aft is the domain of skipper Jan Dooyes. Jan loves to sail his Linquenda, and prefers to do so with guests. Although Spakenburg is her home port, during the season Jan sails from the historical inner harbour of Monnickendam.
